Red Cabbage

Red Cabbage

This dish complements most pork meats and sausages very well.

Ingredients

  • 1 – 2 jars red cabbage
  • 1 – 2 yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter
  • 2 – 3 sour apples (Granny Smith is good)
  • 1 – 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 dl. Raisins
  • 2 teaspoons sugar + 1 – 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar or lemon juice

Directions

  1. Peel and slice the onion.
  2. Cut the apples in thin wedges. Leave on seeds and skin.
  3. Heat up butter in a pan; add the cabbage, onions, and apples.
  4. Cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add salt, spices and raisins. Cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the sugar and vinegar or lemon juice
